New Interface to Improve Access and Evaluation of Pathology Imaging
Vista, CA – October 27, 2008 – Aperio Technologies, Inc., (Aperio), a global leader in digital pathology for the healthcare and life sciences industry, has teamed with PDS Pathology Data Systems, Ltd. (PDS), an industry leader in providing preclinical toxicology, pathology, and repro/teratology software, in the development of an interface between Aperio’s SpectrumTM digital pathology information management system and PathDataTM, the PDS pathology software system.
The interface, which is expected to be complete in the summer of 2009, is designed to optimize laboratory workflow by providing access to true color whole slide images at sub-micron resolution from within the PathData system. Aperio’s digital format ensures that laboratories have on-demand access to pathology images wherever and whenever they need it. This is the first commercial interface of its kind for preclinical workflow in pathology and significantly streamlines workflow for laboratories using both of these products.
“Interfacing with PathData addresses the demands expressed by many of our pharmaceutical and CRO customers regarding the seamless integration of our Spectrum image management (PACS) software with leading LIMS,” said Dirk Soenksen, CEO of Aperio. “Digital pathology provides an image-based environment for managing and interpreting information generated from a digitized glass slide, offering substantial improvements in preclinical pathology and drug discovery. We are very pleased to be working with PDS in delivering an integrated solution to our customer base.”
“The PathData System offers the most advanced tools and technologies for laboratory information management, and the ability to give our pathology community seamless and efficient access to the cutting edge of whole slide imaging is a very exciting development that will serve our mutual customers very well,” said Reto Aerni, CEO of PDS Pathology Data Systems. “The synergy created by the Aperio/PDS collaboration is a significant step in bringing whole slide imaging into common use in the preclinical environment.”
“Having developed a fruitful relationship with both Aperio and Pathology Data Systems, we are delighted to see these two leaders work more closely together in the advancement of preclinical pathology tools,” said Maurice Cary, CEO of Pathology Experts LLC. “Whole slide imaging is a technology that makes our pathologists more accessible to our clients and brings exciting future opportunities for
more effective and efficient toxicologic pathology workflows globally.”
Prior to its official launch in the summer of 2009, representatives from Aperio and PDS will be available to discuss the Spectrum-PathData interface at the fourth annual Pathology Visions conference to be held October 26-28 in San Diego, CA, at the Manchester Grand Hyatt.
